In the Community
Neerlandia Co-op takes extreme pride in being able to give back to our communities. We owe our success to our members and our customers, who purchase our products and services. Therefore, it is very important to our organization that we are committed to contributing to the betterment of our community, our members and our employees.
Neerlandia Co-op, as part of the Co-operative Retailing System, is also proud to be involved in campaigns to raise funds and awareness for important ventures like the Children’s Hospital Foundations of various provinces, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and the Canadian Red Cross.
Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL), on behalf of local Co-ops that make up the Co-operative Retailing System, knows it is important to do what’s possible to make children and families feel at home while in hospital. That’s why FCL is making an historic gift of $5 million over five years to the five children’s hospital foundations in Western Canada.
Of the $5 million, B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation receives $550,000; Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation in Calgary, $825,000; Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation in Edmonton, $825,000; Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan, $1.7 million; and The Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba, $1.1 million. The money was divided using a formula developed by FCL to fairly allocate region-wide gifts of this nature, and was agreed to by all parties.
For nearly a century, Co-ops have built their reputations on being the local business that cares about people and communities, partnering with others that hold similar values in support of causes that matter to each of us.
The Drink Pink campaign is a promotion exclusive to Co-op convenience stores and THE MARKETPLACE™ delis across Western Canada. The campaign includes the sale of specially designed cups; for each Drink Pink cup sold, 10 cents is donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (5 cents from Van Houtte; 5 cents from retail co-ops). In addition, a portion of sales from general merchandise items like specially designed travel mugs, reusable shopping bags and slippers sold in retail Co-ops is donated to the Foundation. Finally, all sales proceeds are matched dollar-for-dollar by FCL on behalf of the entire Co-operative Retailing System.
Co-op is proud of its ongoing partnership with Van Houtte. During its three years, the Drink Pink promotion has raised more than $346,000 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) and its 235 member-owned retail Co-ops are donating $1,000,000 over five years to help local Co-ops and the Canadian Red Cross work together to provide effective, community-based emergency response throughout Western Canada. This is the largest single, multi-year donation in the history of the Co-operative Retailing System (CRS).
The Red Cross will receive $100,000/year to pre-position goods across the West in order to respond quickly to local crises. Another $100,000/year will be available to match local retail Co-ops’ emergency donations to the Red Cross.
Equally important, Co-op employees will have the opportunity to step up as volunteers to assist in the event of local emergencies. In the first year of the partnership retail Co-ops with operations in and around Brandon, Portage La Prairie, Prince Albert, Yorkton, Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat, Aldergrove and Comox are encouraging employees to become volunteer reservists with their local Red Cross.
