Produce Clerk
Summary
The Produce clerk is responsible for the selection, pricing, promotion, stocking, quality and maintenance of produce department.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Welcome customers, answer questions, help locate items, and provide advice or recommendations when requested
- Order produce
- Plan, build and maintain produce displays. Ensure seasonal changes and feeling of abundance
- Checking, sorting, culling and organizing produce daily
- Prepare fruit + veggie cups/trays – washing, cutting + trimming, displaying
- File claims for bad incoming produce
- Help unload truck on truck days, sort through produce and store properly in cooler
- Ensure that department is clean, orderly, and meets health department standards
- Actively participate in the growth and vision of the produce department
- May at times be required to fulfil Cashier and Packer duties
- Provide excellent customer service to all new and returning customers
- Fill and stock produce stands
- Maintain a safe, neat, and clean work environment
- Other duties as assigned by manager
Accountability
The Produce Clerk will report directly to the Food Store Manager and align objectives with Neerlandia Co-op shared values, purpose, and vision.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Food safety is considered an asset
- Prior experience working in a retail setting would be considered an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team environment
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build lasting relationships
- Ability to communicate effectively – reading and writing
- Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly
- Basic math and computer skills
- Ability to lift, pull, push minimum of 50lbs
- Ability to follow protocols and directions
- Dependable, honest, committed, positive attitude and a willingness to learn
- Excel in a fast-paced, evolving environment
